Orthodontics for Kids

Building healthy smiles through early intervention and gentle, effective treatment

Why Start Early?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. At this age, we can identify developing problems and determine the best time to begin treatment.

Early treatment isn't always necessary, but when it is, it can make a significant difference in your child's dental health and overall well-being.

Early Intervention

Starting treatment at the right time can prevent more serious problems later and reduce overall treatment time.

Gentle & Effective

Phase 1 treatments guide jaw growth and create space for permanent teeth in a comfortable, kid-friendly way.

Builds Confidence

Addressing orthodontic concerns early helps kids feel confident about their smile during crucial developmental years.

The Age 7 Evaluation

By age 7, your child has a mix of baby teeth and permanent teeth, giving us a clear picture of how their teeth and jaws are developing. During this evaluation, we look for:

  • Crowding or spacing issues
  • Bite problems (overbite, underbite, crossbite)
  • Jaw growth patterns
  • Airway and breathing concerns
  • Harmful oral habits (thumb sucking, tongue thrusting)

What Happens Next?

After the evaluation, we'll discuss our findings with you and recommend one of three paths:

Option 1: Monitor & Wait

Everything looks good. We'll check in periodically as they grow.

Option 2: Phase 1 Treatment

Early intervention now, followed by Phase 2 treatment later.

Option 3: Comprehensive Treatment

Wait until more permanent teeth erupt, then begin full treatment.

Treatment Options for Kids

We offer a range of gentle, effective treatments designed specifically for growing smiles

1

Phase 1 Early Treatment

Interceptive orthodontics typically begins between ages 7-10, addressing issues like crossbites, severe crowding, or harmful habits.

2

Palatal Expanders

Gentle expansion of the upper jaw to create space and improve breathing. We use both traditional and 3D-printed metal expanders.

3

Early Orthodontic Monitoring

Regular check-ups to track dental development and determine the optimal time to begin treatment.

Airway-Focused Care for Kids

Dr. Oliver pays special attention to airway health in young patients. Orthodontic expansion can help improve breathing, sleep quality, and overall development.
